Member of the Month – Emma G!

Congratulations, Emma!

Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of Subversus Fitness. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at info@crossfitcc.com or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened! Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to Subversus.

What some of you had to say about Emma!

So happy that Emma has won Member of the Month. It was great being on the same team as her in the 2018 In House competition where she crushed it and was an amazing teammate. While Emma is super competitive herself, she still always finds time to shout out and recognize other athletes who do well.

One of the things I love about Emma is how much she cares. If there’s a skill she’s missing she will keep trying and trying until she gets it (ring muscle up). Or if it’s a strength thing she will put all her focus on it until it happens (300 lb back squat). I’m sure that 200 lb clean is coming soon too! Congrats Emma!!

Congrats Emma! It’s about time! Emma has amazed me since I met her and my appreciation of her has only grown over time. I love doing WODs with her because it’s always #goals. She works SO hard and has overcome so much with such a great attitude that it’s impossible to not be inspired by her every time. Also, she’s got great taste in sports teams and is always happy to root for the correct teams with me!

Wow I am so excited to see Emma win MOTM! Not only is she one of my best friends, but Emma treats everyone like a friend at the gym! She always makes sure to stay and cheer each and every person on—whether it’s in a WOD or staying for all of the open classes, Emma is there! She truly is a great asset to our gym community and we are all lucky to have her here!

Humble, yet amazing, Emma is a squat god. She puts up over 300 pounds on her back squat like it’s nothing! She inspires to just keep pushing. She is my #brutestrength buddy and I love nothing more than a good battle with her— whether it’s with sandbags or barbels!! Let’s not forget the amazing cat fight with JZ during the open. #meow

Last year, Emma and I did LBC together and it was awesome to watch her pure determination to crush numbers shine through. She even placed 1st at her first weightlifting meet!

I am lucky enough to know Emma very well outside of the gym and couldn’t be luckier to have had Subversus bring her into my life! Congrats to you!! So well deserved.

Emma is a true powerhouse. When she first started at Subversus, I was like, daaaammnn, that woman is strong AF! But also, how does she move so fast while wearing glasses???

Anyhow, Emma just keeps getting better and better. She works crazy hard at everything she does, but what I appreciate even more is her kindness, genuine interest in others and willingness to go grab a beer after almost any workout. So glad to have Emma as part of our community! Congrats!!!

— Ronna

Woo Emma! She is always so supportive of others both in and out of the gym. Her dedication to getting fitter is admirable and has been paying off! Congrats Emma!

— Katherine D.

Congratulations from the Coaches!

Well deserved, Emma! Always willing to cheer others on, approach obstacles with an open mind (hello, muscle ups?!), and show appreciation for coaches feedback. Its been so fun to watch you grow as an athlete and help build our community.

— Morgan

Congrats on your big win! Emma is one of the most consistent and hard working athletes we have and it’s great to see that her fellow athletes have bestowed this honor upon her.

Em can do it all, but give her a barbell and she’s in her happy place. She’s super strong and inspires me to try to get on the gain train. Congrats again Emma you’re a great part of the community and I’m glad to see everyone sees it too. Woohoo!

— Luis

Emma works harder and cares more about her fellow basement-mates than most anyone. She has applied herself to olympic lifting, crossfit, and gymnastics with fervor and seen excellent result. Always quick to cheer on everyone else, and ready to lead by example, she’s a fantastic example of what a great member is. We’re lucky to have her in our community, and I’m excited to see her progress!

— Justin

What a fabulous win from a current in house champ. She’s obviously one of the hardest working athletes at the gym, and that dedication shines through her daily efforts. Very excited for her to get the nod from her peers. Great Job!

— Tim

It’s rare to get to work with an athlete whose committment to their skill development hasn’t wavered as she has progressed. Often, people rush to the complicated movement, not Emma – you’ll still find her working progressions and quietly getting stronger and faster. Well deserved!

— Wylie

And now, from our winner!

What’s your day job and profession?

I am a student in a Physical Therapist Assistant program in Bryn Mawr, and I also work as a rehab aide

What’s a skill or goal that you’re working on?

I am working on getting my first STRICT ring muscle up. I have an endless list of other things that I want to improve on, but some that stick out are stringing more toe to bars and chest to bars together. On a more mental note, I am also trying to run my own race and be a little less hard on myself.

What’s your favorite workout?

Well I wouldn’t call it a workout… but there’s this event called The Spooky Total that I enjoy! In terms of workouts I love just about anything barbell, yes even thrusters. Dare I say I like them! I also like to see ring dips in workouts and the sandbags (hint hint).

What’s something about you that most people don’t know?

I actually studied Spanish and Sociology in my undergrad! I studied abroad in Valparaíso, Chile for five months and am pretty fluent in Spanish. I say ‘pretty’ because I have most definitely gotten rusty, and if anyone wants to help me practice let me know!

Thanks, Emma! Keep crushing it in workouts!
