Member of the Month – Mike “Popo”!

Congratulations, Mike “Popo”!

Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of Subversus Fitness. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at info@crossfitcc.com or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened! Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to Subversus.

What some of you had to say about Mike!

Wow! Popo comes in and steals the show! Mike “Popo”is a newer member to the gym, but fear not, this means nothing. Like myself, he is a 4:30 regular (as well as a new Dawn Patrol and Ele>ate goer) and I couldn’t be happier to welcome him to the clan! He comes in each day, ready to work, with NO idea how strong he is or how quickly he’s gotten just about every advanced CrossFit move (with serious ease). He continues to be a silent assailant, crushing workouts one by one and making the rest of us look silly. But you can’t hate him; he’s just too nice! Mike is a friendly face in the gym and we are lucky to have him here at Subversus! Congrats Mike, so well deserved!

— Alexa S.

It’s awesome to hear that Mike is MOTM!! Since he joined us, it’s been fun to watch Mike figure out what he’s actually capable of. For example, when we were teammates at the In-House Comp, he thought his snatch was 140 and it was actually more like 185. (!) Or a few weeks ago when he jumped up onto the rings, and with the casual ease of a guy on a lazy Sunday walk through the park, knocked out his first few muscle ups. (He was all like, “like this?” I was like, sure Mike. Like that.)

But besides all of the strength and fitness, I think Mike’s just generally been a great addition to Subversus as a person. He’s always friendly, always smiling, always saying hello. He’s just genuinely good people, something that’s been obvious from Day 1. Congrats Mike!

— Evan Y.

Wow this is great news and so well deserved! Popo has quickly become a great presence at Subversus. While not always the loudest person in the group, he has already become a leader. He his humble and lets his work speak for itself. He has already learned so many movements so quickly (bar muscle ups AND strict handstand push ups in the open)! These movements can take people years to learn. Maybe it took you two cues before getting a ring muscle up? Yet you’re so humble about it!

Talent aside, I am always happy to see Popo in a class of mine because he is a workhorse and demolishes just about any workout thrown at him and will cheer you on right after he is done. Also not just anyone would volunteer to do the first open showdown of their FIRST open and put on such an impressive performance! He’s been great to have in gymnastics lately too! Keep up the good work Popo – happy to have you here!

— Emma G.

“Is this a record time for quickest win of MOTM? Just like every other WOD, Mike has crushed the competition and this win is very well deserved! Mike has been a great addition to the 4:30 class and the gym overall; he has such a positive presence and is one of the hardest workers here. He’s strategic but humble about the way he attacks a workout, he’s a great energy to be around. Congrats Mike, you earned it!”

— Sara W.

“I have known Mike basically his whole life, as you can see by this picture of him!

He joined CrossFit really recently and already can do almost every gymnastics movement and is crushing weights like it’s his job! It’ll be scary to see how good he will be after another year at Sub>ersus!”

— Dani F.

Some words from the Coaches!

It makes sense that this heartthrob would win the hearts of our members so quickly. The dude is a stud, and he has barely gotten his feet wet in the world of making fitness. Can’t wait to see what he can do with some more time. Kudos on the win.

— Tim

You becoming member of the month was bound to happen given your positive attitude and willingness to learn. Although you came into our gym super strong, it’s been a joy watching you take on the myriad of gymnastics moves we throw at you constantly. During this year’s open we saw just how far you’ve come; from getting your first bar muscle to kipping a ton of C2B, you put in a ton of work and it shows.

It been a pleasure coaching you and watching progress over the last couple of months. Congrats once more and cheers to many more PR’S to come!

— LuLu

Mike has a kryptonite, believe it or not – & its ab finishers. Other than that, theres very little he can improve upon – moves well, receives cues well, cheers others on – the only thing that can make this kid better is if he quit CrossFit and became a full time weightlifter 🙂

— Morgan

Excellent choice! Mike is a great MOTM selection— a tremendous talent, a gem of a community member, and a constantly supportive presence in the room. Always willing to take notes towards getting better, throwing himself into an Open showdown (so much pressure!), and crushing WODs, always around to congratulate others on their effort. He’s a great part of our community, and I’m thrilled everyone else obviously sees this too!

— Justin

We had to shorten Mike’s nickname to just “Popo” because “I PR at everything, but I’m really nice about it” just didn’t quote roll off the tongue, but that’s the truth! It’s really exciting to watch Mike’s progress especially because of his diligence to making sure he’s moving well and doing the little things right.

What’s your day job and profession?

I am a mechanical engineer
