Congratulations, Lauren!!
Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of Subversus Fitness. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at info@crossfitcc.com or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened! Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to Subversus.
What some of you had to say about Lauren!
“Lauren is one of my favorite people at the gym for many reasons:
- Her killer attitude: No matter what injury is bugging her or what else is going on in her life, she shows up to the WOD and does her thing. And she’s crushing it.
- Her friendliness: One of my earliest memories at CFCC was how nice Lauren was to me after I somehow ended up on a team where literally every teammate had to watch me finish doing 30 wallballs (not much has changed since).
- Her sense of humor. I can’t count how many times her wry jokes have made our Saturday team WODs feel slightly shorter.
- Her willingness to eat after workouts: Lauren has even been known to pack a bottle of prosecco for a weekend WOD just in case of BYO brunch after.
Yay, Lauren!” – Ronna
“Yay, so happy to see LCal win this award. She is a true OG, she has been at the gym longer than me! She is always great to see at any WOD and brings lots of positive energy to the class.
She went through a pretty serious injury that kept her on the sidelines for months, but she did lots of personal programming while recovering. Now she’s back with a vengeance and just got done crushing lots of pull-ups in Murph . She also volunteers for so many events at Subversus, which is super cool. She often judges the In-House team competitions, and it’s always a pleasure to be judged by her . Congrats to Lauren!!!” – Greg
“Congratulations Lauren, well deserved! Over the last two years Lauren has worked extremely hard to come back from a back injury that required surgery.
She has been an inspiration to me throughout the process as she kept a positive outlook, solid work ethic, and great attitude.
I’m really proud of her and her accomplishments both big and small.” -KCal
“This is so exciting! Lauren is the best! It always makes my day better when I make it to the 7:30 and see she’s in class! Not only is she friendly and cheers everyone on, but her hard work at subversus is inspirational as well. Anytime I’m exhausted after work and working out isn’t what I want to be doing, Lauren is in the same boat and helps motivate me to get it done! Yay Lauren!” – Bridget
“After joining the gym within a week of each other back in 2012, it’s not a stretch (no pun intended) to say that it often feels like we’ve grown up together at Subversus…which is why I am so excited to see Lauren recognized as MotM! With the best mix of fierce attitude and humble inner-strength, Lauren constantly pushes herself both in and out of the gym. From overcoming a major back injury, numerous black eyes, and countless seeing-Jesus-moments-during-WODs, to teaching herself how to do pull ups (before the official pull up project! and now able to do triple-digits in one WOD!), and participating in Tough Mudders and the Broad Street Run, Lauren serves as a huge inspiration and is a major reason why, after all these years, I still love and continue coming to the gym!” – Jen F
“This is very exciting! She is THE BEST so I don’t know why this took so long to happen! I first got to know Lauren at summerslam in 2016. I was on KCal’s team and she was amazing! AMAZING! So friendly, so supportive, asking if we were all okay, having extra snacks and drinks at her disposal cheering us all on during that ridiculously hot day. Since then, we’ve spent a lot of time bonding over injury issues and mobilization. No matter what’s going on, she always has a smile on her face when she steps into the gym. She tries her best and she’s come a long ways in recovering from her significant injuries. She also deserves all the praise for dealing with the constant KCal tags on the whiteboard! She is the best!” – Kyle
Congratulations from the Coaches!
“So happy to see Lauren is our Member of the Month! She is part of the original #basementofdreams crew that has helped us create the community that we are today. Her attendance record is unparalleled and even in the face of a pretty monumental setback, she stayed positive, grounded, and grateful. She is a member that I sincerely enjoy getting to coach, albeit rarely, because she is so receptive to feedback, very willing to try, and also doesn’t know how capable she is 🙂 She’s a reliable breath of fresh, positive air in the midst of the ever-changing cycles, events, and members of the gym.”- Morgan
“This is great! Lauren is AMAZING. Her resilience and determination to constantly get better, especially in the face of setbacks that would have derailed a person of less character, is an inspiration. She comes to class with a great work ethic, a quick smile, and a sincere support of her fellow athletes. It’s worth taking a 7:30pm class just to hang out with her. “- Justin
“Lauren is one our most enduring and consistent athletes and, unabashedly, one of my favorites. She has made tremendous progress over the years, including dealing with some serious injuries and setbacks. I know that I can always count on her to make newer folks feel welcome and ensure that class doesn’t feel too intimidating, which I think is really the best thing that can be said about a member.” – Ave
“I’ve seen Lauren grow from our spot off 13th and Locust to the badass on Chestnut. She’s an OG, and this shout out is cool, but everyone already knows that she runs this joint. I mean you would never know from her daily demeanor, but she throws down better than the best. Also, thank goodness she started, or Kevin would have never found fitness.” – Tim
“At the end of the day, much of what we do is to drive each athlete to embrace an uncomfortable place using what they have learned about their capacity. Lauren does this so often and it’s exciting to watch and get to coach. She challenges herself, but always with an eye for the best movement that she can get from that approach. Well done Lauren! P.S. if you don’t follow @raisetherufus on instagram, you’re missing out.” –Wylie
