Congratulations, Folke!!
Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of Subversus Fitness. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at info@crossfitcc.com or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened! Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to Subversus.
What some of you had to say about Folke!
“ I’m so happy for Folke. This could not have come at a better time. After placing third in the open last year, Folke was riding high. I could see it in his step. So light. He walked with purpose. His head held high. But as the year wore on, the shine started to fade. The step, slower. The head, slightly down. But with this win, it’s go time. We’re about to witness the rebirth of Folke. The Folke that bleeds thrusters. And sweats burpees. The Folke that will rally the gym, and unite Sweden. KING FOLKE!!” – Jpap
“It’s been many months of agony as I’ve voted for Folke again and again only to see well known gym troublemakers like Jason Malumed win in his place. I’d finally given up all hope until last Sunday, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl after decades of losing. If they can do it, why can’t Folke? Another little known fact about Folke is that he lives about one block from CrossFit Novem, but his loyalty to Subversus knows no bounds. He has been recruited by Novem many times after they saw his incredible performance in the 2017 CrossFit Open (I think he finished like 3rd or 4th in the gym!). He turned down their offer after realizing they only throw their wallballs to a 10 foot target. Instead he bikes for miles in the freezing cold for the allure of the 11 foot targets of Subversus Fitness. Congratulations Folke, there will be celebrations on the streets of Sweden tonight.” – Greg S
“Wowwowowowowowow! How did this man not win MOTM already?! HE BROUGHT SWEDISH MACROS TO THE UNITED STATES and was arguably the greatest MGP of all time!
Well I’m glad to hear that this travesty has been corrected! Folke is one of the few of us left at >, a dying a bread, a fellow tallman protecting the tallman rigg at the noonclass! As soon as I found out Folke won MOTM, I immediately called Soren Anderson. Here’s what he had to say, “The best way I can describe my feelings when hearing this announcement is probably….relief. I felt relief. And of course…we are all very happy. This is a huge day, not only for Sweden, but for the whole of Europe.”
Unofficial HQ has even heard reports that people are celebrating the announcement on the streets of Berlin! Congrats Folke! #sweden” – Kyle
“Sure thing!” – Andrew
“Congrats Folke!!!!! You’ve def earned this as a CFCC/Subversus OG! There is no one quite like you…No one as tall(Maybe Kyle), no one as handy, No one as Swedish!
I remember meeting Folke close to three years ago. He was a substitute coach during the summer at Subversus. I remember thinking to myself… “Who is this guy?” “Why is he so big?” “That tattoo on his leg is interesting.” “Where’s that accent from?” “Omg I’ve never met someone from Sweden!” “Does he like Swedish fish?”
Little did I know there was so much more to Folke then what met the eye. He’s an athlete with a myriad of skills(his handstand push-ups are amazing to watch), he’s got an amazing voice(his vocal stylings during Gagnam Style will never leave my mind), and he’s a breathtaking dancer(ask him to show you the Swedish Hammer one day).
But you know what’s stupendous? How humble and welcoming Folke is at the gym! Anytime I workout with him or just hangout he’s able make me laugh and feel welcomed and I for one appreciate the effervescent energy he brings to the Basement of Dreams!!!
Congrats once more Folke! You’re da best! You say #3, but you’re #1 to me!” – Luis
– Jason
Some words from the Coaches!
“ขอแสดงความยินดีนี่เป็นเกียรติอย่างยิ่งสำหรับชาวสวีเดน” – Morgan
“The Swedish (i think?) Sensation! Folke deserves to be member of the month based solely on the fact that he doesn’t mind 11 ft wallballs. Cajones.” – Ave
“Folke is the best! Strong, calm, friendly, fast, and tremendously nice. If only it wasn’t for all those headbands lying around…” – Justin
“Folke is a hungry dog! And hungry dogs run faster.” – Tim
“To my fellow tall pull up bar sharing and headband wearing fellow athlete, I salute your achievement. He also had quite possibly the greatest mystery guest post on the white board ever. Epic. Well done!” – Wylie
A few words from Folke!
What’s your day job and profession?
“Before moving to the US I was a high school teacher but now I’m a part-time real estate developer, part-time teacher and part-time stay-at-home husband.”
What’s your favorite workout?
Anything where you benefit from being tall, such as wall balls or rowing workouts. But then again I also hate rowing. I like power cleans and (non-strict) hand stand push-ups too.
What’s a goal or something that you’re working towards?
I have a good friend in Sweden whose fitness goal is to stay stronger than me. My goal is simply to make it as hard as possible for him to achieve that goal.
What’s something about you that most people don’t know?
My name is actually Folke Westergren, not Fol Ke. I don’t think many of my American Facebook friends are aware of that.
Great work Folke, keep crushing it and good luck in The Open!!
