Congratulations, Amber Sterling!
Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of CrossFit Center City. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. She not only pushes me, but encourages me to do my best. Working out with Amber, I always know I am not only going to have fun, but work hard! She is dedicated, motivated, and STRONG. A true powerhouse, Amber seizes the true and tough barbell heavy workouts- and man, does she kill them! What do you do when you’re not at the gym? I do a whole lot of food prep on Sundays, I watch amazing television shows like “So You Think You Can Dance”, I hang out with my husband, and I love to travel.
Your profession? For my profession, I am the Program Manager of the Immunization Program for the City of Philadelphia. I love, love what I do and I am so lucky that my job adds good to this crazy world!
How did you find out about CF? After a brief move to DC I was moving back to Philly and I was thinking about where I wanted to workout. I had never done CrossFit, but had trained for marathons, half marathons, done lots of HIIT workouts, completed a power lifting training program, and I was looking for something that kind of combined all those disparate fitness experiences. I remembered seeing people running around Center City sometimes carrying things and I figured that must be crossfit! So, I found my way to the basement of dreams!
What makes you come in and train on days that you don’t want to? It is pretty rare that I don’t want to come in and train! But, on days where I am tired or maybe I have had a bad day, I think about how much better I’ll feel after I workout and I love getting to see my friends at the gym! Special shout out to the 4:30 crew and those weird enough to want to stick around for durABLE!
What’s your favorite movement and/or metcon? I love thrusters, I’m sorry, I know, it’s weird, but I love them. As far as workouts, I remember really liking DT, though I completed it scaled. And, oddly enough, I like Fran (must be those thrusters).
What’s one thing you would like to accomplish within CF in the next year? Strict pull-ups! I am coming for them, they are on my radar and I will get them!
Name something about you that’s a little-known fact. I have lived in 5 different states (Colorado, Texas, California, DC – twice, and PA) and France (in college) during my lifetime!
