Member of the month for October – Emma Jane

Congratulations, Emma Jane!!!

Once a month, our community votes to recognize a single member who embodies the spirit of Subversus Fitness. He/she is someone who has a good attitude, even on the toughest days, is always there to lend support to fellow athletes, and generally goes the extra mile to help build our community to become even more awesome. When it’s time to vote, we send a reminder email out to the entire crew, but if you ever see another member do something really cool for you or the gym in general, feel free to shoot us an email at or leave a note in the box to tell us what happened! Our Member of the Month is always awarded a FREE month of membership to Subversus.

What some of you had to say about Emma Jane!

“Emma Jane is like the sweetest hard candy that may break your tooth if you cross her..” – Shana

“Once a year I do a week with Emma Jane to get my body ready for the heavy season at Jaws. Your body takes a pounding surfing those big waves and I know that if I can hang with her, I’m ready for whatever the ocean throws at me.” – Laird Hamilton

“Emma Jane is #GOALS. Emma Jane is such a motivation to me at the 7am workouts. She is always enthusiastic and a pleasure to be around. Plus, she has PR’ed almost every week this cycle. How can you not be inspired when you have someone like Emma Jane alongside of you! Emma Jane’s member of the month status is well deserved and I look forward to continuing to see her ring that gong” – Emily H.

“15 years ago, I was training in the jungles of Borneo and the locals told me that I needed a new coach to step up my training.. I walked into a grass shack with a dirt floor and saw a woman doing one armed push ups in the corner. ‘That’s her, they said’. I thought I knew fitness, I was wrong. Emma Jane showed me what fitness really was all about.” – Chuck Norris

“She scares me a little.” – The Ultimate Warrior

“Thank god Emma Jane finally won. I friended Emma Jane on Facebook over three years ago, and she still hasn’t accepted. Maybe now if she sees this, she will actually accept my request. I think that just goes to show you that Emma Jane is a god and doesn’t have time to fret over the trivial things us mere mortals concern ourselves with. Hell, she was calling me “John” for a solid 6 months and I couldn’t bear to correct her because I was too in awe of her. Even though I normally only speak to people that attend the 8am, I make an exception for Emma Jane. She really is an honorary member of the 8am Disease, especially because she is usually working out for an extra hour anyway after her normal 7am class. Emma Jane, you are a legend!”

“Last summer I was taking a break in Spain between filming “When earthquakes attack: part 3″ and “Remarkably, Still Furious: Part 9″ when I met EJ. I went out to my mobile workout trailer and EJ happened to be in town and had snuck in to get a good bicep pump. She took my training to the next level, I’ve never been the same since.” – The Rock, Dwayne Johnson

This is everything. Emma Jane will wreck you. She’ll rip your heart out. She is always the last one standing in the arena, and the only one who will proceed to do handstand push-ups after her victories. Emma Jane takes no prisoners. Her exploits are mere whispers. May you never gaze directly into her direction because, just like the ark of the covenant, you will melt. Here’s to another notch in that championship belt.  – Tim

“Emma Jane is the best. Great energy, great commitment, great person.” -Morgan

I want to be Emma Jane when I grow up. Determined, brave, disciplined, kind, adventurous, and always quick with a joke and a smile, she brings light to every 7am she graces. She makes Subversus a better place, and everyone better by being there. ” – Justin

“Badass called and agreed to replace it’s definition with her photo. Seriously, Emma Jane is an inspiration and has a wicked sense of humor that I love. Brava!” -Wylie

Emma Jane is what we all aspire to be when we grow up. We’re never quite sure what she’s doing back there with all of those dumbbells after class, but she’s always kicking ass and taking names (mostly JMal’s). She seems to ring that gong more often than everyone else put together, and she has THE strongest trash-talk game in the gym. Congrats and well-deserved, Emma Jane! ” – Ave

A few words from Emma Jane!

I am retired. But we have a few charities and foundations that we are very involved with that take a lot of our time and we also travel around with these charities to other states. We were introduced to CrossFit at a holiday Christmas Party five years ago. Some “younger couples” were talking about it and were just joining up. They said they thought I could do it and told me to go find one and drop in. I really enjoy our Subversus club. I like the dedication and concern that the coaches here show towards every individual. I never feel that I am the Lone Ranger. If I can’t do something, then they have another way I can perform in order to get to my goal. There’s always another solution to the problem.  And it doesn’t make me feel like other people are looking at me as if they are thinking “oh she can’t do it”.

WHAT’S your favorite workout?

I have a few of them, but “Fran” isn’t one of them. I like Muscle Ups or Deadlifts with wall balls, rowing and sit ups.

I have a few goals. I really want to do a pretty toe to Bar (I’d settle for 10 of them.  Right now I am working at successfully performing 10 handstand push ups without stopping. Also, a fluid snatch.

Haha. I was on The  Paul Whiteman Show (way before your time) as a child and a regular on The Children’s Hour”. I danced and sang.

Congratulations Emma Jane! Keep being a damn legend!!
